General Clan Theme

The purpose of "The Disciples of Hassan" is to give new players on Aardwolf who no longer have the newbie channel a place to have their questions answered, to find friends of similar experience, and to make friends with some of the more experienced, helpful players in Aardwolf. The clan will also give newbies a nice introduction to clan life to see if it is indeed for them.

Beyond that, DoH is a helper clan. Our members should be of assistance to other members of the Aardwolf community, particularly unclanned and new players, to whatever extent we are able.

Trigger Abuse/Mud Rules Violations

The Immortals of Aardwolf have ruled that triggers are your own responsibility. However, it is illegal to deliberately take advantage of another players trigger(s) and, as such, is an outcastable offense.

Any other violation of mud rules (see "help rules" and related/ referenced helps) is also an outcastable offense.

Clan Etiquette

All members of The Disciples of Hassan are expected to follow certain rules of clan etiquette and mud etiquette. While Clan channel has an X rating, we often have members younger than 18 who have it on despite the rating. Expecting them to leave it off is expecting them to remain isolated from much of the clan's interactions. Please refrain from random or multiple lines of swearing. Take it to curse channel, ftalk, or tells. If the ranking member online asks you to tone it down or take it elsewhere, please do so.

We require that all members maintain a courteous attitude on the clan channel. Since we are large, there are apt to be other members with whom you do not get along. In such cases, remain civil on public channels and keep arguments to tells. Please notify the ranking member online (Advisor or above), or post a note to the clan leaders if mediation is needed.

If you want to fight someone, take it to the cmaze or duels.

The same applies to to the rest of the mud. Your behavior reflects on the entire clan. Pay particular attention to the status of other clans as shown on clanallies and don't make enemies where none exist.

Clan Communication/Notes

Many times when people want to suggest an idea, they will use the Personal board to write a note to the leaders of DoH, or the entire clan. Whenever there are clan upgrades, they will also be posted on the Personal board. Important mud information is posted by the Imms on Announce and Mudinfo boards. Therefore it is required of all members to read all notes on the Personal, Announce, and Mudinfo boards on a regular basis. Type "board personal" and then just type "note" to read each note in turn. You might also want to take a look at "help board" and "help notes" for more information on notes in general.

Expectations of Novices

Novices have no specific clan duties other than to enjoy themselves and learn, particularly about clans, and the clan system and activities. They are encouraged to explore, attempt area quests, and find their own play style and areas of expertise. They are encouraged to ask questions on matters with which they are unfamiliar. We do require that they remain courteous and polite in their requests. As members of DoH, they are expected to set a good example in their behavior and actions. Optional Novice duties are to answer questions and provide other assistance to clan members and the Aardwolf community as they are able.

Trainees have the same duties and expectations as Novices. Those considering applying for Advisor rank are encouraged to observe applicant interviews to get a feel for the duties of the higher ranks.

Initiate rank is the Advisor applicant testing and training ground. Their duties are similar to those of Advisors, but they have to prove themselves worthy of higher rank. They are required to observe interviews to learn the process, and to conduct initial interviews after they have observed enough to know what they are doing. They are required to post interview notes, with those for observed posted to their supervising Mentor and clan leaders for evaluation.

Initiate Training and Testing

  1. Consistently show a patient, courteous, and helpful attitude
  2. Possess and share useful mud knowledge
  3. Demonstrate full knowledge of the clan Petition and Guides, mud rules, and the clan system.
  4. Join as an observer in at least 4 applicant interviews. (Senior interviewer will list all observers in the interview note. If an observer leaves before the end of the interview, it will not count for training.) Write interview notes on the same to supervising Mentor and leaders for evaluation.
  5. Conduct at least 2 initial interviews of an applicant under the supervision of an Advisor or above, and write satisfactory interview notes on the same. Conduct at least 2 initial interviews (invite interested Trainees to observe), and write satisfactory interview notes on the same.
  6. Fulfill all other requirements for promotion to Advisor.
  7. Pass final examination interviews by supervising Mentor and at least two Leaders.

Outcast for Cause

Members may be outcast for cause on leader majority vote (or if there is a split vote, leaders and Experts) for any outcastable offense; in the case of a member holding the rank of Novice, for infractions that would otherwise warrant demotion; and for actions/behaviors that give reasonable cause to consider the character a clan spy (leaders only).

Inactivity Timeout Outcasting

Members will be outcast after inactive periods of:

  • 2 months for Novices
  • 3 months for Trainees
  • 6 months for Initiates
  • 9 months for Advisors/Mentors
  • 12 months for Experts
  • 3 months for Sages (demotion to Expert)

Unavoidable real-life issues that will cause longer periods of inactivity may be held exempt from these limits if the member informs the clan in a timely manner. These will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Outcast Fees

Upon outcasting from any clan, a character receives an outcast flag. Outcasts may PK and be PKed, but have no clan hall and cannot join another clan until their flag is payed off. The cost is 25,000 gold per current level (see help outcast, help unoutcast). Thus we encourage those who wish to outcast to do so after they remort. At level 1, the cost is only 25,000 gold to remove the outcast flag.

Player Killing (PK)

Once you join the clan, any member of another clan that is at neutral or lower status (see "clanallies") may attempt to PK you in any PK room on the MUD ("help pk"). This is a part of clan life and should be accepted. Just be on your toes. Whatever you do, if you get attacked or killed in a PK fight, please do not get mad or take it personally. The worst that will happen is you lose some time or a spellup; it is not a huge deal. If the person is reasonably within your fighting range, you may attempt revenge ("help revenge"). If not, let more experienced members of DoH, allied, and friendly clans know who did it, and we will try to exact some measure of revenge for you.

The clan might also be at war at times, which means that a member can PK or be PKed by the clan members we're at war with in any place on the mud and not only in PK rooms (open PK). Check with clanallies command and "who [clan name]" to see if there are characters from the clan at war in your PK range and remember to beware of them (or hunt them).

The Raiding board is recommended reading for all members. There is a lot of information passed there about PK, raiding, and defending.

Raiding and PK with other clans

Read "help raiding" and related helps.

As a general rule of thumb, you should never use the "invade" command unless you are a powered-up superhero. Raidable clans have defenses strong enough to swat anyone else like a gnat, and should never be invaded by lower level members. Raiding parties need members to serve in other capacities, so you might still be able to participate.

Good tips on raiding:

Clan Defense

With the clan alliance system, the clan might have allies at our side who can come and help defend the clan hall if we are raided. Notice them and treat them respectfully. Use the clanallies command to find our allied clan at the time.

Read "help raiding", Raiding board, and all sections of "Defending your clan" at http://baensidhe.net/Daoine/defending.php for more information about what can and should happen during a defense.

Equipment belonging to other clans

You are free to wear the equipment of any clan.

Equipment belonging to The Disciples of Hassan

NEVER AUCTION, SELL, OR DROP CLAN EQUIPMENT FROM THE DISCIPLES OF HASSAN CLAN SHOP! YOU WILL BE OUTCAST FOR DOING THIS!

ENCHANTMENTS HAVE TO BE DONE INTERNALLY, YOU CANNOT GIVES THESE ITEMS TO ANYONE OUTSIDE THE CLAN.

Note! Using the clanskill "balance" adds ownership to the item. The only way to get rid of it after this is to use the "destroy" command (drop [item], destroy [item]).

Taxes / Donations

Check our tax rate by typing claninfo DoH. That percentage will be deducted from all gold received from looting mobs, auctioning items, selling items to shops, or getting gold off the ground or from containers. Those proceeds are directed to the clan account balance, and are tracked on your whois.

You are free to donate as much gold as you wish using the clandonate command. That total is also tracked on your whois and counts toward promotion. See Rank Requirements above and in the Rank Requirements section for the donation requirements for promotions.

Also read help quest, help campaign, and help gquest for information on ways to get quest points, gold, and an occasional bonus trivia point (tp), help trivia for the uses and sources of tps, and help tpspend for other uses and to learn how to convert tps into tokens that you can sell. (Good tips and tricks for doing quests, campaigns, and gquests can be found at http://baensidhe.net/Daoine/qtips.php )

It is recommended that you not auction trivia tokens. You lose 10% of the sale price to auction tax, and pay clan tax on the remainder. Clan taxes do not count toward promotion requirements. Offer the token on Barter channel, then meet the buyer in person to sell it. If you don't know the going price for tp tokens, ask on Barter.

Note!!! Always type acc to see how much gold you have before meeting the buyer, and again after receiving payment and before handing over the token. Dishonest players have used emotes to falsify payment. Should this happen to you, contact an Imm immediately.

Donating Quest Points

QP donations are discouraged. It is much more profitable to buy a tp from Questor (quest buy trivia), sell the tp (help tpspend), and donate the gold. QPs in the clan account equate to only 5000 gold each. Do the math.

Action of good will:

If you wish to delete your character, and you are still on good terms with DoH, please donate all your money and any remaining qps to the clan account. You will have our gratitude.

Expectations of Advisors

As senior members of DoH, they are required to set a good example in their behavior and actions, and to represent DoH to the Aardwolf community as a helper clan. However, they are not personal slaves, equipment fetchers, spellup machines, nor power-leveling group partners.

Emergency fido assistance is for emergencies, not whenever a clan member forgot to restock before going out to level. On a final note, the clan will have many people online at times and advisors will not always see what is said by everyone in the clan. Remember to be patient and polite at all times.

Mandatory responsibilities:

* Provide advice to clan members (areas for levelling, equipment to wear, or just answering questions in general).
* Provide emergency fido assistance upon request, when possible, to any member of the clan.
* Portray a polite and courteous manner on the clan channel and in personal conversations with members of the clan.
* Portray a similar attitude towards members of other clans and the Aardwolf community. We want to be minimally involved in clan politics. If someone attempts a PK, please do not take it personally and get angry. PK is a part of clan life and we should accept that. This includes even if they are in our clan hall.
* Do not enter the clan maze for any reason unless there is a raid. This is considered an outcastable offense.  The highest ranked member (Advisor or above) online should organize the defense.
* Interview applicants to DoH. When going to do an interview, ask for observers and give them a few minutes to respond. Include a list of observers in the interview note.

Voluntary responsibilities:

* Assisting on quests in anything further than giving general
directions. We should always point them in the right direction if asked for help, but by no means should you take them to their quest mob (help quest rules, help gqrules, help policies6). Assistance on campaigns may be more involved (help cp rules).
* Non-emergency fidoing. Feel free to fido as much as you like to
members, but know that you certainly aren't expected to send somone quad heals every 30 minutes -- common sense prevails here. Don't let folks take advantage of you; they are supposed to be learning how to fend for themselves.
* Obtaining equipment. Feel free to take this as far as you wish.
When asked about equipment you are only required to give any knowledge you may have; you don't have to go get it.
* Grouping. We encourage our advisors to group with other clan
members, but that decision is left up to the individual.
